Text: Romans 8:15–17
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
THE HOLY SPIRIT as INTERNAL COMMUNICATOR The Inner Witness
Memory Verse: Colossians 3:15 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
The inner witness of the Holy Spirit is one of the most important ways God communicates internally with believers. This communication does not usually come as an audible voice, but as a deep inner assurance, conviction, peace, or clarity within the human spirit. It is a spiritual knowing that goes beyond logic, emotion, or human reasoning. The inner witness confirms the truth, guides decisions, and provides confidence in God’s will.
The Holy Spirit communicates directly with your spirit, not primarily through physical senses. This communication may appear as inner peace when a decision is right, or inner discomfort when something is wrong. It serves as a spiritual signal, guiding you toward safety, truth, and divine alignment. The inner witness protect you from error and confirms when you are walking in God’s will.
The inner witness is like a spiritual compass. A compass may not speak, but it always points in the right direction. The Holy Spirit provides silent but accurate direction within your spirit. When followed, it leads to safety, clarity, and purpose. When ignored, you may experience confusion or instability.
The inner witness becomes clearer as you grow spiritually. Prayer, meditation on God’s Word, and obedience strengthen sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. However, distractions, disobedience, and emotional instability can weaken spiritual sensitivity. Learning to recognize and trust the inner witness brings confidence and stability in decision-making.
Action Plans:
- Practice stillness and prayer daily to recognize the Holy Spirit’s inner witness.
- Pay attention to inner peace or restraint when making decisions.
- Obey the inner witness promptly to strengthen spiritual clarity and confidence.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 15; SS&S 607 I AM THINE, O LORD, I HAVE HEARD THY VOICE
| 1. I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, And it told Thy love to me; But I long to rise in the arms of faith, And be closer drawn to Thee. |
| Refrain
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord, |
| 2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord, By the power of grace divine; Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, And my will be lost in Thine. |
| 3. O the pure delight of a single hour That before Thy throne I spend, When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend! |
| 4. There are depths of love that I may not know Till I cross the narrow sea; There are heights of joy that I may not reach Till I rest in peace with Thee. |
