Text: 2 Corinthians 4:17–18
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
THE LIGHT OF GLORY IN THE FUTURE
Memory verse: Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
One of the greatest promises of Scripture is the assurance that the light of God’s glory will not only sustain us now but will also be our eternal portion in the life to come. The Bible paints a vivid picture of this reality in Revelation 21:23, which declares that in the New Jerusalem there will be no need for the sun or moon, “for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” This means that in eternity, the presence of God Himself will be the everlasting source of illumination, life, and joy.
Today, we only experience God’s glory in part. It shines through His Word, through answered prayers, through His Spirit at work in our lives, and through glimpses of His majesty in creation. Yet this is but a foretaste. 1 John 3:2 assures us that when Christ appears, “we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” That moment will mark the fullness of God’s glory revealed to His children. There will be no more veils, no more dimness, no more partial revelation, only the radiant brilliance of God Himself, unhindered and eternal.
This future glory light means there will be no more night, fear, sorrow, or death. All that darkness represents will be eternally banished. The Lamb, Jesus Christ, will be the lamp of heaven, radiating the Father’s glory forever. For believers, this hope inspires perseverance through present trials, reminding us that our light affliction is working for us “an eternal weight of glory”
The light of glory in the future is not just about illumination, it is about union with God. To live forever in His light means to dwell eternally in His love, holiness, and peace. It is the fulfillment of every longing and the perfection of every promise.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 107: “HOPE IN HIS PROMISES” BY APOSTLE JAMES ABACHE
- In Your presence, Lord, we find
Fullness of joy that’s truly divine
A joy that’s pure, eternal, and true
A joy that only comes from loving You
Refrain:
You are our joy, our hearts’ delight
In Your presence, we shine with new light
You wipe away our tears, our pain, our fears
And fill us with Your love, through all our years
- Though trials come, and hardships too
We’ll hold on to hope, and see this journey through
For in Your presence, we find our peace
A peace that passes understanding, the world can’t release
Bridge:
One day we’ll see Your face, and be with You forevermore
In Your perfect presence, we’ll experience joy like never before
No more pain, no more sorrow, no more night
Only Your love, Your peace, Your joy, shining so bright
Outro:
Until that day, we’ll hold on to hope
And celebrate the joy that we know
In Your presence, Lord, we find our peace
Our hearts’ delight, our ultimate release.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 107: “HOPE IN HIS PROMISES” BY APOSTLE JAMES ABACHE
- O God of hope, our hearts we raise,
To You, our voices sing,
In joy, we rest within Your grace,
And trust in Christ, our King.
You’ve promised peace, eternal life,
Beyond this world of woe,
And in Your love, we find our strength,
Our hearts with joy will glow.
Refrain
Hope in His promises, firm and sure,
He’ll lead us through the storm,
With joy that lasts, through trials pure,
In His embrace, we’re warm.
Hope in His promises, pure and bright,
Our Savior’s love will guide,
Rejoice, O soul, in heaven’s light,
With Christ, we’ll ever abide.
- Though pain may come and shadows fall,
We trust His plan for me,
For through the night, His love will call,
And bring us victory.
The broken world will one day heal,
Our tears will turn to joy,
For in His hands, our future’s sealed,
His truth no one can destroy.
- So let our hearts in hope rejoice,
As we await His reign,
With every breath, we lift our voice,
His glory will sustain.
Forevermore, we’ll sing His praise,
In heaven’s perfect place,
And in His love, we’ll spend our days,
Beholding His sweet face.
