Text: 1 Corinthians 15:52–57
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL FOR ETERNAL GLORY
Memory Verse: Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
The gospel of Christ carries within it the power of eternal hope. It does not end with salvation from sin; it ushers believers into the everlasting glory of God’s kingdom. Through the gospel, death is defeated, and life beyond the grave becomes our reality. Jesus did not only come to improve human existence, He came to transform mortality into immortality. The cross is more than a place of suffering; it is the gateway to eternal triumph.
At the sound of the final trumpet, every believer who has trusted in Christ will experience a glorious transformation, “the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” This is the ultimate victory of the gospel: death swallowed up in victory. What once brought fear now becomes a passage into glory. For the believer, death is not an end but a transition, a doorway to the presence of the King.
The gospel is like a divine passport, sealed with the blood of Jesus. It guarantees our citizenship in heaven and our inheritance with Christ. Our faith in the finished work of Calvary ensures that we are no longer bound by the fear of death or the weight of sin. The assurance of eternal life brings courage to face trials, persecution, and loss with unwavering hope.
Every earthly pain has an expiry date, but glory is eternal. The believer’s focus must therefore rise above temporary challenges to the promise of everlasting joy. Paul reminds us that our “light affliction” works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory 2 Corinthians 4:17. What we endure today cannot compare to what awaits us in eternity.
The power of the gospel is the power of resurrection; it turns graves into gateways and mortality into immortality. When Christ rose, He secured not only His victory but ours. This is the believer’s ultimate confidence: that in Christ, death has lost its sting, the grave has lost its power, and eternal glory is guaranteed.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 20; SS&S 134: JESUS, KEEP ME NEAR THE CROSS
- Jesus, keep me near the cross,
there a precious fountain,
free to all, a healing stream,
flows from Calvary’s mountain.
Refrain
In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever;
’til my raptured soul shall find,
rest beyond the river.
- Near the cross, a trembling soul,
love and mercy found me;
there the bright and morning star
sheds its beams around me.
- Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
bring its scenes before me;
help me walk from day to day,
with its shadows over me.
- Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,
hoping, trusting ever,
’til I reach the golden strand,
just beyond the river.
