Text: 2 Timothy 1:8-10
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL TO BRING IMMORTALITY AND GLORY
Memory Verse: Romans 8:18 “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
The gospel does not end with forgiveness, it leads to immortality and glory. Through Christ, death has been defeated and life has been revealed. What once terrified man has now become a doorway into eternal victory.
Before the coming of Christ, death reigned as man’s final enemy. But through the gospel, Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light 2 Timothy 1:10. The cross silenced the grave, and the resurrection turned the tomb into a testimony. Every believer now carries the hope of eternal life not as a distant dream, but as a living reality in Christ.
Apostle Paul declared that though we may face pain, persecution, or loss, these present sufferings are light compared to the eternal glory being prepared for us Romans 8:18. The gospel gives meaning to our pain and turns temporary trials into eternal rewards. It teaches us to endure with hope, for we know that glory is the believer’s destination.
In 1 Corinthians 15:52–57, Apostle Paul describes a moment of transformation, when the trumpet shall sound, and the mortal shall put on immortality. The corruptible will be clothed with incorruption, and death will be swallowed up in victory. This is the ultimate triumph of the gospel: not only freedom from sin, but victory over death itself.
The gospel reminds us that we are not living for this world alone. Our citizenship is in heaven, and our journey is toward eternal glory. Each act of faith, each sacrifice for Christ, and each trial endured in love contributes to that glorious transformation.
Therefore, live with confidence and courage. Death no longer has the final say, Christ does. Let this truth anchor your hope and fuel your worship. The grave is empty, and our future is glorious.
“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 15:57. The gospel is our assurance that life wins, light prevails, and glory awaits.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 20; SS&S 134: JESUS, KEEP ME NEAR THE CROSS
- Jesus, keep me near the cross,
there a precious fountain,
free to all, a healing stream,
flows from Calvary’s mountain.
Refrain
In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever;
’til my raptured soul shall find,
rest beyond the river.
- Near the cross, a trembling soul,
love and mercy found me;
there the bright and morning star
sheds its beams around me.
- Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
bring its scenes before me;
help me walk from day to day,
with its shadows over me.
- Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,
hoping, trusting ever,
’til I reach the golden strand,
just beyond the river.
