Text: Ephesians 2:8–9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
THE POWER TO SAVE
Memory verse: Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
The gospel is not a moral lecture or a religious ideology; it is God’s power in action. The first expression of that power is salvation, the deliverance of humanity from sin, guilt, and eternal death. No education, ideology, or self-discipline can save a person from the grip of sin. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ carries the divine power to do what human strength cannot do.
A person trapped in a quicksand. The more he struggles to escape, the deeper they sink. That is the condition of every human heart under sin. Education may teach the trapped man how to move, religion may promise help, and morality may advise him to stay still, but none can pull him out. Then comes the gospel, like a strong arm stretched down from above, lifting him completely out of the pit. The gospel does not offer advice; it offers rescue.
When a sinner believes in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, something supernatural happens. The chains of sin are broken, the record of guilt is erased, and a new nature is born within. Salvation is not about becoming better; it is about becoming new. The old life dies at the cross, and a new life begins in resurrection power. The gospel does not polish the outside; it recreates the inside.
Through faith, the believer experiences the same power that raised Jesus from the dead Romans 8:11. That power does not just pardon; it transforms. It replaces weakness with strength, shame with righteousness, and despair with hope. Salvation is God’s masterpiece, a divine exchange where Christ takes our sin and gives us His life. This power continues to work daily in those who believe. The gospel saves us from sin’s penalty, through sin’s power, and eventually from sin’s presence. It is God’s ongoing energy, shaping us into the image of Christ until we reflect His glory.
So, when Apostle Paul said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel,” he spoke as one who had seen its explosive force. It turned a persecutor into a preacher, a murderer into a messenger, and a broken man into a bold witness. That same power is still saving, still transforming, and still restoring today.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 121 CALLED TO THE HIGHER MISSION By Apostle James Abache
- Jesus, You call us to leave all behind,
To follow Your voice and seek what we find.
From earthly pursuits to a purpose divine,
We lay down our lives to Your will, in Your time.
Refrain:
We’re called to the higher mission,
To reach the lost, to share the vision.
From the shores of earth to the heavens above,
We’ll Walk in Your purpose, in Your endless love.
- Like fishermen casting their nets on the sea,
We’re called to reach souls, to set them free.
Not for our glory, but for You alone,
We share Your salvation, Your mercy is shown.
- Through trials and struggles, we carry Your name,
Spreading Your gospel, unashamed of Your claim.
The world may reject, but Your light will shine,
In every dark place, Your love will align.
- With hearts full of faith, we go where You lead,
To serve and to give, to meet every need.
For the harvest is plenty, the workers are few,
We rise to the call, and we follow You.
- Our hands will serve, our voices will sing,
Declaring the glory of Christ, our King.
We will endure, we will never turn back,
For the mission You give us, we’ll stay on track.
- No matter the cost, we will faithfully go,
To tell of Your mercy, to make it known.
For in every heart, Your Spirit will dwell,
As we share the good news, Your love will compel.
- We’re called to the higher mission,
To reach the lost, to share the vision.
From the shores of earth to the heavens above,
We’ll walk in Your purpose, in Your endless love.
- Our hearts will burn with the fire of Your call,
To spread the Good News and answer Your call.
We’ll follow Your footsteps, with courage we’ll go,
To bring men to You, to make Your love known.
- Oh, lead us, O Savior, with Your guiding light,
We’ll follow Your mission, through day and through night.
To the higher purpose, we’ll always remain,
Forever proclaiming Your mercy and name.
Today’s Prayer
- Lord Jesus, let the power of Your gospel break every chain of sin and transform my heart completely by Your Spirit.
- Father, release the saving power of the gospel through me to touch and rescue others from the grip of sin.
- Lord, let Your saving power reach every lost soul around me; open their hearts to believe the gospel and be transformed forever.
