The Price of Prayer

The Price of Prayer

Bible Text: Matthew 6:6

6 But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Memory Verse

Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”

A communication line connects two people who are far apart. When the connection is weak or neglected, the relationship suffers; but when it is maintained, understanding and closeness grow stronger. Prayer is the spiritual connection between humanity and God. It is not merely asking for things; it is the pathway through which we build fellowship, receive direction, gain strength, and align our hearts with God’s purpose.

Just as a soldier must maintain communication with the commander during a battle, a believer must remain connected to God through prayer. Prayer requires sacrifice because it demands time, discipline, consistency, and the willingness to seek God even when answers are delayed.

Many biblical victories were birthed through prayer. Daniel continued praying despite opposition. Hannah poured out her heart before God and received her miracle. Jesus withdrew often to pray and remained strengthened to fulfil His assignment. Prayer may require denying comfort, waking early, or spending time alone with God, but the spiritual rewards are beyond measure.

The price of prayer is consistency. Prayer is not only for moments of crisis; it is the daily relationship between you and God. A person who only prays when problems arise may miss the deeper fellowship that comes from continuous communion with the Father.

Prayer requires patience because God’s timing may differ from our expectations. It requires faith because we must trust God even before we see results. It requires humility because prayer acknowledges our dependence on God’s wisdom and power.

Jesus taught His disciples that some spiritual battles require deeper levels of prayer and dedication. Prayer changes situations, but it also changes the person who prays. Through prayer, God strengthens our character, renews our minds, and gives us wisdom to navigate life.

The greatest sacrifice in prayer is making God a priority. In a world full of distractions, choosing time with God demonstrates love and commitment. Those who pay the price of prayer experience greater intimacy with God and become instruments through which His purposes are fulfilled.

A prayerful you is not one who avoids challenges but one who faces challenges with divine strength. Prayer opens the heart to heaven’s guidance and empowers believers to walk in victory.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 51: SS & S 235: MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE,

Stanza 1

My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine ;
Now hear me while I pray ;
Take all my guilt away ;
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine.

Stanza 2

May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire :
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be—–
A living fire.

Stanza 3

While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my Guide :
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away ;
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

Stanza 4

When ends life’s transient dream—-
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll—-
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove ;
Oh, bear me safe above—-
