Text: Galatians 5:15–17
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Memory verse: Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
The gospel is not merely words on a page, ink on paper or stories from the past, it is the living power, activated by the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit, the gospel remains information; with the Spirit, it becomes transformational. The Holy Spirit is the breath of divine life that turns belief into experience, knowledge into conviction, and faith into power.
A light bulb may be beautifully designed and full of potential, but until it is connected to electricity, it remains dark. The gospel is like that bulb, full of truth and promises but the Holy Spirit is the power that makes it shine. Without the Spirit’s presence, even the most eloquent preaching remains lifeless. But when the Spirit flows, hearts are convicted, bodies are healed, and lives are changed.
Romans 8:11 declares that, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also quicken your mortal bodies.” The same Spirit that rolled away the stone and revived Jesus’ lifeless body now lives in you. That means divine energy, strength, and renewal are not distant, they are not far away, they dwell within you. Through the Spirit, you are empowered to overcome weakness, sin, and fear.
Apostle Paul also wrote in Galatians 5:16, that we should “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” The gospel gives us salvation, but the Spirit gives us power to live it out daily. The Holy Spirit teaches us, guides us, and produces fruit within us, love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control. Without Him, Christian living becomes a struggle; with Him, it becomes a joyful partnership.
Every revival, every transformed life, and every sustained faith journey is evidence of the Spirit at work. The gospel saves us once, but the Spirit sustains us every day. He is the breath behind your boldness, the fire in your worship, and the strength in your weakness.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 34: SS & S 894: AMAZING GRACE! HOW SWEET THE SOUND
- Amazing grace ! how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me ;
I once was lost, but now am found ;
Was blind, but now I see.
- ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved ;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed !
- Through many dangers, toils, and
I have already come : [snares,
‘Tis grace that brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home,
- Yes, when this heart and flesh shall
And mortal life shall cease, [fail,
I shall possess within the vail
A life of joy and peace.
