Text: Matthew 5:14–16
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
The Spirit of a Man and Leadership: Presence, like the warmth of the sun
Memory Verse: Psalm 34:5 “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
One other key quality of a true, spirit-led leader is presence. This kind of presence is not about loud words or commanding power. It’s more like the warmth of the sun on a cold morning, quiet but strong, gentle yet life-giving. Just as sunlight does not need to announce itself before it brings comfort, a man filled with the Spirit does not force his presence, he carries peace and strength within.
People feel this kind of presence. When such a man enters a room or speaks, others are encouraged. They feel safe, hopeful, and strengthened. He may not say much, but his calm spirit brings comfort. It is not a show, it is something real and deep that flows from his relationship with God.
This is the kind of presence that comes from spending time with God in prayer, in the Word, and in quiet obedience. It is built in the secret place, where the heart is shaped, the character is purified, and the soul is filled with peace. That inner peace then shines outward like sunlight. A true leader does not try to draw attention to himself. He simply carries what God has placed in him. He knows who he is, not because of his title, but because of his walk with God. His presence points people to God, not to himself.
This kind of leader is needed in homes, churches, schools, and communities, men and women who carry light into dark places, peace into chaos, and hope into despair. Just as the sun brings life to everything it touches, spirit-filled leaders bring renewal wherever they go.
So, if you want to lead well, focus on what is inside. Seek God. Let His Spirit fill you. Do not chase recognition, carry His presence. Let your life shine like the sun, not for show, but to warm the hearts of those around you.
Covenant Gate Hymnals 97: ” GUIDE US, LORD, IN SERVICE TRUE” By Apostle James Abache
1. Guide us, Lord, in service true,
As we lead and follow You,
In Your wisdom, we shall grow,
And Your love, we’ll always show.
With our hands, we’ll serve Your grace,
And in our hearts, Your love embrace,
For the church, Your work we’ll do,
In the strength You give anew.
Refrain:
Guide us, Lord, in every plan,
As we seek to follow Your command,
In leadership, we humbly stand,
Empowered by Your holy hand.
With wisdom, love, and unity,
We’ll serve Your church in harmony,
Guide us, Lord, in service true,
And lead us ever close to You.
2. In the tasks we’re called to bear,
Let us always seek Your care,
To shepherd hearts with gentle grace,
And lead with truth in every place.
May our words be filled with light,
Bringing hope and strength to fight,
For the kingdom’s work is near,
And in You, we have no fear.
3. As stewards of the gifts You give,
In Your truth, we long to live,
With each decision, prayer, and deed,
Let us follow Your true lead.
For the church is not our own,
But a place where You are shown,
Through each leader, every heart,
In Your love, we take our part.
Today’s Prayer
- “Lord, thank You for the gift of leadership and the calling to reflect Your presence.”
- “Let me lead not with charm, but with character rooted in Your Word and Spirit.”
- I pray that those around me will feel the peace of God through your words and actions.
