THE SUPERIORITY OF LIGHT

THE SUPERIORITY OF LIGHT

Text: John 1:4–5

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

THE SUPERIORITY OF LIGHT

Memory Verse: John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Darkness has no power of its own; it is simply the absence of light. The moment light appears, darkness retreats. Even the smallest flicker of a candle can drive away the deepest night. Spiritually, this illustrates the supremacy of Christ’s light over sin, deception, and satanic oppression. When Jesus shines into a life, the grip of sin and the chains of darkness must be broken.

Jesus declared in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” To follow Christ is to embrace a life that cannot be dominated by the works of darkness. His light provides clarity where there was confusion, purity where there was corruption, and hope where there was despair.

The psalmist confidently proclaimed in Psalm 27:1, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” Light will not only dispel darkness but also instils courage. Fear thrives in obscurity, but when God’s light fills the heart, fear is replaced with faith. His presence guarantees safety and assurance, because His light exposes every hidden trap of the enemy.

Through redemption, we have been transferred from darkness into light. Colossians 1:13 says, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” This is not just deliverance from sin’s penalty, but also a relocation of spiritual authority. Darkness no longer has jurisdiction over those who belong to Christ.

The superiority of light means no matter how thick the darkness may seem in life, it cannot withstand even a spark of God’s presence. This truth assures every believer that battles with sin, fear, or oppression are not fought from a position of defeat but from victory in Christ.

To live in this reality, we must continually walk in the light of His Word, cultivate intimacy through prayer, and refuse compromise. Where the light of God reigns, darkness is powerless.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 87 “REDEEMED FROM CHAINS OF DARKNESS” By Apostle James Abache

  1. From the depths of darkest night,

Where the shadows hide the light,

I was bound in chains of fear,

Held by powers far and near.

But my Savior heard my cry,

Spoke His name and set me free.

Now in His grace, I rise and stand,

Redeemed by His mighty hand.

Refrain:

I am free, I am free,

By His blood, delivered me!

No more chains, no more strife,

I am saved, and restored to life.

Hallelujah, praise the King,

From the pit, He’s called me out to sing!

  1. Satan’s whispers lost their power,

In the light of that great hour,

When the Lord’s voice called me whole,

Restoring peace unto my soul.

No more torment, no more night,

I am free in His great light.

He has broken every chain,

Nevermore to be enslaved!

Bridge:

In His name, the demons flee,

At His feet, I find my peace.

Victory, forever mine,

In the blood of Christ divine!

  1. Now I walk in freedom’s light,

With my Savior by my side,

For the One who freed my soul,

Now leads me to a life made whole.

I’ll forever praise His name,

For He broke the devil’s claim,

And forever I will sing,

Of the One who is my King.
