Bible Text: 1 Peter 2:9–10
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
who in time past were no people, but now are God’s people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Memory Verse:
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
A prince raised without knowledge of his royal identity may live like a servant unnecessarily. Identity blindness causes believers to live beneath their spiritual privileges because they do not understand who they are in God. Identity blindness is a type of spiritual blindness where people fail to understand who they are in God. Many believers are saved yet continue living with fear, insecurity, confusion, inferiority, or defeat because they lack understanding of their spiritual identity in Christ. The Bible declares that you are chosen, holy, and called into God’s marvelous light. Through salvation, you become a child of God and receive a new spiritual identity. However, identity blindness prevents many from walking confidently in the authority, purpose, and privileges God has given them.
A person suffering from identity blindness often defines themselves by past failures, human opinions, painful experiences, or worldly standards instead of God’s truth. Such persons may constantly struggle with rejection, low self-worth, discouragement, or comparison with others because spiritual understanding is limited. Satan also attacks believers through identity confusion. He seeks to keep people ignorant of their position in Christ because spiritually confident believers become stronger in faith and obedience. When you do not know who you are spiritually, you become more vulnerable to fear, temptation, deception, and discouragement. Identity blindness weakens spiritual confidence and limits effectiveness in God’s kingdom. You may hesitate to pursue divine assignments or exercise spiritual authority because you feel inadequate or unworthy. Yet God’s Word clearly reveals your identity as redeemed, forgiven, loved, and empowered through Christ.
Spiritual identity becomes clearer through studying Scripture, prayer, obedience, and fellowship with God. The Holy Spirit continually reminds us of God’s truth and helps us to walk confidently according to His purpose. Jesus understood His identity completely and remained secure in the Father’s will despite opposition and temptation. Believers today must also reject false identities and embrace God’s truth fully.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 28: SS&S 190: COME, HOLY SPIRIT, COME
Let Thy bright beams arise,
Dispel the darkness from our minds,
And open all our eyes.
Revive our drooping faith,
Our doubts and fears remove,
And kindle in our breasts the flame
Of never-dying love.
Convince us of our sin,
Then lead to Jesus’ blood,
And to our wondering view reveal
The secret love of God.
‘Tis Thine to cleanse the heart,
To sanctify the soul,
To pour fresh life in every part,
And new-create the whole.
Dwell therefore in our hearts,
Our minds from bondage free ;
Then we shall know, and praise, and love
The Father, Son, and Thee !
