Bible Text: Isaiah 5:20–21
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
who put darkness for light,
and light for darkness;
who put bitter for sweet,
and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
and prudent in their own sight!
Memory Verse:
Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
A damaged thermometer gives incorrect readings and creates confusion about actual temperature conditions. Moral blindness distorts spiritual judgment and causes people to confuse righteousness with sin, truth with error, and darkness with light. Moral blindness is a dangerous type of spiritual blindness where people lose the ability to distinguish clearly between right and wrong. Instead of judging according to God’s standards, morally blind people begin calling evil good and good evil. Their moral understanding becomes distorted because spiritual truth is rejected or ignored. The Bible strongly warns against reversing God’s standards of righteousness. Moral blindness develops when people repeatedly compromise truth, justify sinful behavior, and follow worldly values instead of biblical principles. Over time, conscience becomes weakened, and sinful practices begin appearing acceptable or normal.
A morally blind person may defend actions that clearly contradict God’s Word while criticizing righteousness and holiness. Society often promotes ideas and lifestyles opposing biblical truth, and without spiritual discernment, many people gradually accept these influences without conviction. Pride, rebellion, unbelief, and continual exposure to sinful influences contribute greatly to moral blindness. When people depend on personal opinions or cultural standards rather than God’s truth, moral confusion increases. Spiritual darkness clouds judgment and weakens sensitivity to conviction from the Holy Spirit. You can also experience moral blindness when you neglect prayer, Scripture study, and obedience to God. Compromise and disobedience slowly affect spiritual discernment. As spiritual sensitivity decreases, wrong attitudes and behaviors become easier to excuse or overlook.
However, God’s Word provides clear moral guidance and spiritual light. Through studying the Scripture and maintaining close fellowship with God, you gain discernment to recognize righteousness and reject evil. The Holy Spirit also convicts hearts and helps believers walk according to truth faithfully. Jesus Christ is the perfect standard of righteousness and truth. Those who follow Him learn to judge correctly according to God’s will rather than worldly opinions. A spiritually healthy believer remains committed to holiness, obedience, and moral integrity.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 28: SS&S 190: COME, HOLY SPIRIT, COME
Let Thy bright beams arise,
Dispel the darkness from our minds,
And open all our eyes.
Revive our drooping faith,
Our doubts and fears remove,
And kindle in our breasts the flame
Of never-dying love.
Convince us of our sin,
Then lead to Jesus’ blood,
And to our wondering view reveal
The secret love of God.
‘Tis Thine to cleanse the heart,
To sanctify the soul,
To pour fresh life in every part,
And new-create the whole.
Dwell therefore in our hearts,
Our minds from bondage free ;
Then we shall know, and praise, and love
The Father, Son, and Thee !
