Bible Text: Proverbs 11:2; 16:18
11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Memory Verse:
James 4:6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
A person who refuses to use a map because he believes he already knows the way may continue traveling confidently in the wrong direction. A proud heart rejects guidance because it assumes it already possesses sufficient understanding. One of the most dangerous reasons many people remain spiritually blind is pride. Unlike ignorance, which can be corrected through learning, pride resists correction because it believes there is nothing left to learn. A proud heart becomes its own greatest obstacle to spiritual growth and understanding.
Pride convinces people that their opinions, experiences, and judgments are always correct. As a result, they become resistant to instruction, counsel, and correction. Even when God speaks through His Word, His servants, or life circumstances, pride prevents the heart from receiving the message. Truth may be presented clearly, yet a proud person often rejects it because accepting it would require humility and change.
One of the greatest dangers of pride is self-deception. A person can be sincerely convinced that they are right while actually walking in error. This false confidence blinds them to their weaknesses, mistakes, and spiritual needs. Rather than seeking God’s wisdom, they depend on their own understanding and become vulnerable to poor decisions and spiritual decline. Throughout the Scripture, God consistently opposes pride because it competes with dependence upon Him. Pride elevates self while humility exalts God. A proud heart seeks recognition, control, and independence, while a humble heart seeks truth, wisdom, and divine guidance.
Spiritual sight flourishes where humility exists. Humble people are teachable, open to correction, and willing to acknowledge when they are wrong. They understand that growth requires continual learning and dependence upon God. Because of this attitude, they receive greater wisdom and revelation.
The cure for pride is humility before God. When believers acknowledge their need for His guidance, grace, and wisdom, spiritual blindness begins to fade. God gladly reveals truth to those who approach Him with a teachable spirit.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 131: Break the Chains, O Lord (Tune: Amazing Grace) By Apostle James Abache
From darkness into day;
Break every chain and set us free,
And guide us in Your way.Refrain
Break the chains, O Lord, we pray,
And drive all fear away;
By Your blood we overcome,
And walk in endless day.
The sins of old, the voice of shame,
Are silenced by Your Word;
Through Jesus’ blood we overcome,
Our victory is secured.
New songs we sing, new paths we tread,
For Christ has won the fight;
The grave is torn, new life is born,
We walk as children bright.
Today’s Prayer
- Father, remove every form of pride blinding my spiritual understanding.
- Lord, give me a humble and teachable heart before You.
- Father, keep my family walking in humility, wisdom, and truth.
